CCI in BSR CCI Contact Desk News

The South Savo region is full of stories, history, modern creativity and nature, with art and culture in an important role. Art and culture contribute to health, wellbeing and societal inclusion. They also bring work, offer experiences, international connections, open new perspectives and bring people together. Learn more about the region and its strategic vision in this video that was created by our partner XAMK - South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences for the Sustainable Design Lab.

Thanks to Kenkävero, Taito Itä-Suomi, ceramist Paula Ruuttunen, Kontrastia photography and artist Mari Saravo for sharing their work in the video.

The Sustainable Design Lab allows designers from different disciplines and different countries of the Baltic Sea Region to participate in an international Pop Up Prototyping Lab and work on ideas related to the SDG 11 “Sustainable Cities and Communities”. Working with skilled designers from Hamburg, Mikkeli and Riga, the participants will be attending three digital workshops and other activities focused on circular design. Here they will gain knowledge about

  • Realising their own ideas and developing prototypes
  • Using inspiration from different disciplines and cultures
  • Sustainable / Circular design

After the workshops, the participants will present a prototype for a sustainable environment, created from their own ideas and present it to a public audience.

Sustainable Design Lab takes place within Creative Ports. The Lab is jointly hosted by three Creative Ports partners Hamburg Kreativ Gesellschaft, XAMK - South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences and Danish Cultural Institute in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania with the support of Goethe-Institut Riga, Northern Dimension Partnership on Culture - NDPC and Magnetic Latvia.
