The InnoCulture Conference 2024 in Gdańsk, held from November 19th to 20th, brought together cultural leaders and enthusiasts from all over the Baltic Sea Region. The Goethe-Institut, Cycle Up!, and the CCI Contact Desk organized one of the standout workshops titled "Culture X Sustainability" focused on cultural actors' vital role in fostering ecological and social sustainability in the Baltic Sea Region.
A Collaborative Kick-Off
We started our workshop with brainstorming sessions to identify tools for sustainable practices. Participants shared insights on cultural actors' challenges and reflected on valuable lessons learned from past projects. The rich exchanges were not only enlightening but genuinely inspiring for everyone involved!
Addressing Key Challenges
During the workshop, we concentrated on three significant challenges that require innovative solutions:
1. Established Practices—No Business as Usual:
How can we adapt to change and integrate new developments like AI in our cultural field?
2. Different Cultural Contexts and the Challenge of Replicability:
How can we adapt successful models across diverse cultural landscapes?
3. Long-Lasting Infrastructure:
Building and sustaining infrastructure that supports cultural initiatives over time is a critical concern.
In collaborative groups, participants created mind maps identifying possible pathways to address these challenges. We discussed leveraging existing regional support structures while fostering innovative approaches tailored to our unique contexts.
Moving Forward
As we wrapped up the workshop, we developed three insightful mind maps for PA Culture to consider in future strategies. These tangible outcomes will guide our efforts toward a more sustainable and culturally vibrant future.
