On November 8, the Opening Ceremony of PÖFF28, the 28th edition of the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival - running from 8-24 November 2024 - took place. The Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (Pimedate Ööde filmifestival, PÖFF) occurred first in 1997. Since 2014, PÖFF has been one of the 15 A-list film festivals accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF) alongside the Cannes, Karlovy Vary, San Sebastian, Locarno, Venice, Berlin, Cairo, Mar de Plata, Goa, Tokyo and other film festivals. The accreditation is renewed every year.
Since 1999, the Goethe-Institut Tallinn has been presenting German film highlights of the year as part of the Black Nights Film Festival. Therefore, we look forward to this year's German focus on the festival, including many films and guests. This year's selection includes Matthias Glasner's gripping and, at the same time, hilarious drama STERBEN, the drama IN LIEBE, EURE HILDE by Andreas Dresen about the resistance group 'Rote Kapelle' and the award-winning tragicomedy SAD JOKES by Fabian Stumm. The program further shows Patrick Büchting's youth film MORGEN IRGENDWO AM MEER and Andres Veiel's new documentary RIEFENSTAHL. To make German films more accessible, the Goethe-Institut also shows Milena Aboyan's drama ELAHA with audio descriptions for the visually impaired and subtitles for people who are hard of hearing.
We wish you all a lot of wonderful cinema moments!
