Funding Inspiration

The Delegation of the European Union to Japan with support of the Goethe-Institut Tokyo are offering eight art and cultural critics from the 27 EU member states the opportunity of residency in Kyoto, Japan.

The residency takes place as part of this year's Kyoto Experiment: International Performing Arts Festival from 5-27 October 2024. The festival is held since 2010 and dedicated to producing and presenting experimental performing arts - both from Japan and overseas.

The open call is addressed to cultural journalists, preferably with a focus on performing arts, including arts writers, critics, theoreticians working for any kind of media and support. The applicants should additionally have a minimum of three years’ experience in art/cultural critique and ongoing professional activity as well as a good level of spoken and written English.

Participants are invited to contribute with their expertise and experience to creating a space for exchange and reflection in multiple event formats. Travel expenses and accommodation as well as a lump sum for living expenses is covered by the programme.
